Ok , I have decided to have some work done on my scoot this winter. Have been toying with the idea of replacing her but but she's been so reliable and quick, (up till recently ) , that i have decided to keep the old girl have a kit put on the little 125 cc engine and get a new spray job . (By the way is it weird that i always refer to my scoot as her ? )
Think i have found someone to do the paint /artwork .
Have a good friend who i trust as a mechanic who can do the engine put a kit on etc (i'm so not mechanically minded) . However do you guys think it's a good idea to have someone who doesn't specialise in scoots do this ?
Also , if not , does anyone want the job or can recommend anyone who does who i can trust ? Obviously i'm paying for all the work ( it wont be under the old pals act biggrin.gif ) .
But as anyone who knows me well knows i am a fussy fucker and will expect it to be done well .
Will probably be prepared to let her go after Wooly so whoever takes it on will have plenty of time to do the work if it's taken as a private job over the winter.
Any ideas ?

Paul at Kenhard's is a top bloke who looks after me well. I always give him a drink and if you do that he takes care of business if you keep giving him your custom. I had a problem with my clutch, and with a little help from my friend who lives around the corner from me we got the bike there (his van was in for a service) and he only charged me a tenner, which anywhere else would have probably cost more. I had a spare fiver in my wallet and gave him that as well.

If you mention me, and he likes his boxing too, you won't go wrong. He definately knows his scooters.

Cheers Chris . Is Kenards the one down by the train station ?

Its not hard to do yourself. if you pick a bolt on kit. Commercially in Plymouth theres not many who understand scoots.

If your looking at a DR 188 kitt, which is what I would use now, as its the most reliable, its only about a 2hr job. Just done my mates and it running great, more grunt than polini up hills.

Jon over a keyham is good on performance kits. although I wouldn't trust anyone with the jetting.

If you want to do it yourself i will help you.

No, it's down by Varley Trophies on Beaumont Road.

Jimmy,
If you want a machine thats reliable and quick, then have a word with Simon out in Tavistock, he does all my work, Pollini 177 matched casings si24/24 autolube carb non reed valve, 22 tooth up gear and one of his pipes, or even the mod he does to the simonini would give you a massive boost in top end and low end grunt.
That set up is similar to the way I went with mine at 1st. I know its a good one too. Plus you have the added bonus of not being a fat git like me, so you'll fly quite litterally. Get the job done properly 1st time and setup properly with the dyno he has and you wont regret it.
If you ask Ozzy from St James Exeter, or Simon the postie from Torpoint. or even Martin they will tell you the same thing. By the way he is the only scooter mechanic this side of Bristol who really does know what he's on about.
Enjoy the IOW, Ill be back in time for Woolly, save me a place!!
